Buzz has it that Ranveer Singh and Zoya Akhtar will yet again collaborate for a film. And rumour has it that Ranveer will essay the role of a rapper in Zoya’s next.
From playing a wedding planner to a warrior on 70mm, Ranveer Singh has experimented with varied roles on the silver screen. And if reports are to be believed, the 30-year-old actor will now essay the role of a rapper in Zoya Akhtar’s next.
According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, Ranveer is all set to give competition to desi rappers like Yo Yo Honey Singh and Baadshah as the Dil Dhadakne Do actor will soon take on the role of a rapper. Tentatively titled, Gully Boy, the film revolves around an underdog who rises from the slums of Mumbai to become a rapper.
But he isn’t your regular rapper who talks about women and booze. The Gully Boy has a heart and a voice that addresses Dalit oppression, street life, economic inequality and homosexuality. He even takes on corrupt politicians.
In fact, buzz has it that Ranveer’s role is inspired from real life rappers like Divine and Naezy from Mumbai. A source was quoted as telling the tabloid, “The film is inspired by real life rappers like Divine and Naezy whose work has ranged from speaking about petty crimes in their respective Mumbai neighbourhoods of Kurla and Andheri to sharing stories about finding a voice and becoming activists.”
The film is in its scripting stage and is expected to go on floors next year.
Zoya has worked with Ranveer in the 2015 film Dil Dhadakne Do and the two have been vocal about their fondness for each other. In fact, the two have also expressed the desire to work again and it seems Gully Boy is the perfect platform for them to work together once again.
Meanwhile, Ranveer is currently busy shooting for Aditya Chopra’s directorial venture Befikre in Paris. The actor will romance Vaani Kapoor in the love story and the film is set to release on December 9, 2016.
